1. Set your thermostat to a lower temperature in the winter.
  2. Ensure that your home is properly insulated. Caulk and weather strip all windows and doors to keep heat in and cold out.
  3. Use thick heavy draperies.
  4. Install storm windows.
  5. Don’t waste energy on very hot water.
  6. Install a clock thermostat to shut down your furnace at night before bed… and then restart before you get up in the morning. (It can save you up to 12% annually on your oil bill!)
  7. Get an efficiency check and tune-up of your furnance.
